Hammer Toe Relief

Content One

Having your toes bent for long periods of time can cause the muscles in them to shorten, resulting in a hammer toe deformity. In poorly fitting shoes or high heels, the foot slides forward and the toes are forced up against the toe of the shoe. This causes the toe to be bent unnaturally. Normally, your toes are straight with just a slight downward curve. With a hammertoe they're bent to the side at the joint and the toe cannot stretch. If the hammertoe is severe, it may be a candidate for surgery.

Solutions to get your feet feeling better fast include toe stretching and foot exercises. The Achilles Tendon and calf muscle becomes tight from high heels, so it's important to actively perform stretches. Also, the nature of high heels causes the toes to buckle and contract, and can specifically result in hammer toe. Yoga is an excellent method to stay stretched. Perform simple range-of-motion exercises of the ankles as it keeps the blood flowing within the foot and can help remove excess fluids (swelling) in the lower leg. This is best accomplished by moving the foot up, down, left, right, and in circles. Try these exercises:

Toe Crunches
Take a towel and sit comfortably on the floor in your bare feet. Place the upper portion of your foot on the towel keeping the heel of that foot firmly on the floor. Take the two ends of the towel and pull it up with your toes in the towel. This should be repeated at least ten or twelve times.

Toe Taps
This is another great exercise for hammer toe relief. This exercise can be done sitting in the same position as you did for the crunch. Put your big toe down on the floor and the other toes up. While in this position tap your toes on the floor. This exercise should also be repeated several times.

Toe Rolls
These are the same as when you tap your fingers on a desk or a table. Stand on the floor in your bare feet and lift all of your toes up off the floor. Slowly roll the toes, from the little toe to the big one a single toe at a time. Do this about twelve times and then change the direction from big toe to the little one.

Another remedy for hammer toe treatment is to soak your feet in a Mineral Foot Bath. Aside from being relaxing, Epsom salt soaks have long been used to soothe sore body parts, especially the feet. It's also important to keep the skin on your foot moisturized, as rough areas develop on pressure points and can be painful. Even after a few hours of wearing high heels and cramped shoes, dry patches of skin may occur. The ball of the foot takes the most impact with high heels, and the foot can become quite callused in this area.

SmartToes™ advanced design helps straighten and align your toes and feet, stretch your Achilles Tendon, and provide hammer toe and bunion relief.

I cannot believe the difference in just the last 2 weeks! I have them on as I type this so I can give you a glimpse of the feeling. They are soft and pliable, yet still strong enough. I highly recommend these for anyone who has hammer toes, like me, or other specific foot problems, or even if your feet are just “tired” all the time. It feels like a full body massage. Great product!
